Plan's East Africa sponsorship appeal

Plan's East Africa sponsorship appeal

Millions of children are going hungry in East Africa as a result of years of poverty. Many families can’t find anything to eat or drink. The food crisis has devastated livestock. Even when families can find food for sale, most can’t afford it.

Sometimes when we watch a humanitarian crisis such as the East Africa drought unfold in front of our eyes, we can feel helpless. I know first-hand from the seven children I sponsor through Plan, including 11 year old Eunice in Kenya, that sponsoring a child will not only help that child and their community to benefit from improved education and health, but enables communities at risk of natural disasters look at ways in which they can protect themselves from the devastation a crisis brings.

That’s why I’m backing Plan’s Emergency Sponsorship Appeal for an additional 494 sponsors to come forward for children in Kenya affected by the famine.

“I enjoy getting regular updates about Eunice and how my sponsorship is contributing to improvements in her life and that of her community.

“For example, I know that Plan is building new classrooms and equipping others so young children don’t have to travel such long distances to attend school.

“I know there is a focus on improving farming and saving skills to help families increase their food production and grow their income.

“And that health campaigns are carried out in schools to create more awareness about cleanliness in schools and homes to improve the health of children and families in Eunice’s community”.
